there is a tool for every task,
and a task for every tool. Tywin had heard that his son, Jamie, his heir, was doing well in his sword lessons. In fact the sword master had raved about his talents on a daily basis. However Tywin had stopped coming to see his son fight very early on so he wasn’t sure if the sword master was being kiss ass or being truthful. It had been his goal to find out, after all he couldn’t neglect all of his children. His wife would certainly not want him to neglect their precious Jamie and Cersei. Though Tywin had no idea how to bond with Cersei as she was a woman and complicated…to say the least. However he knew there were some thing he could converse with Jamie about. Especially since the boy was the heir to Casterly Rock and expected to carry on the name Lannister in the similar way Tywin did. While Cersei was set to marry some highly respected Lord or perhaps a future king. And the third one…well Tywin was still working on a plan for him, that wouldn’t cause the family name a problem. Tywin rounded a corner when he spotted the familiar boy. “Ah, Jamie, there you are!” Tywin called in probably the kindest Tywin has ever spoken to his children. “I have been hearing great things about your fighting quite recently. You will having your sword lesson with me today as I would like to see these great skills for myself.” Tywin turned and began walked towards their armory. Yes, he meant right now. If that wasn’t clear by his stance and mannerisms. Tywin folded his hands back his back, walking up right to the armory. Once he got there, he spotted the training swords. Tywin knew Jamie was still young and still not near his skills, so the wooden swords would have to do for now. Maybe if the boy proved he gained great skills, Tywin would use the real swords.

there are no men
”Ah, Jaime, there you are!” Jaime turned around, unable to completely hide his surprise at the tone of Tywin’s voice. He couldn’t remember the last time he heard his father sound so… pleasant. It was almost concerning. He immediately thought about everything he'd done that his father wouldn't approve of in the last month. ”I have been hearing great things about your fighting quite recently.” Was that what this was about? Jaime grinned with pride. ”You will have your sword lesson with me today as I would like to see these great skills for myself” ”Yes, father.” He quickly followed the older Lannister. Jaime would be happy to show off. Swords were the one thing he was good at and he knew he wouldn’t disappoint Tywin. At least, he was convinced he wouldn’t. He'd proven better than every other future lord or knight hed fought. When they got there and his father picked up the wooden swords Jaime couldn’t help looking a bit insulted. ”I’ve been using real swords for months.” he informed, not that his father would know. This was the first time he’d seemed to take any interest in Jaime’s lessons since he started.

there is a tool for every task,
and a task for every tool. Yes, father. Tywin wasn’t at all surprised his son obeyed. He would be surprised if he didn’t. Tywin had his children under his thumb. At least for now. The man was powerful and scary, he was pretty sure he would have control of them for some time. Which was good. Tywin had plans for each and every one of them. He was setting up Cersei to become a very powerful noble or Queen; he was shooting for the latter. However he was a realist and knew that second place would also do. Jamie was going to become the next Lord of Casterly Rock and was going to marry a beautiful noble woman, carrying on the Lannister name and create more family. Tyrion…well Tywin was not sure what exactly he had planned for his youngest son, but he had to make sure it would not blow back on the Lannister name. So the Wall was out of the question. He couldn’t inherit Casterly Rock, the man killed his wife and would not inherit their legacy. But he certainly wasn’t just going to throw his life away and do nothing. Tywin ignored the looks that Jamie was giving him as he grabbed the wooden swords. I’ve been using real swords for months. “Take the wooden sword, Jamie,” Tywin commanded in a voice that clearly read he was not going to be argued with. “I am sure you are an excellent fighter as I am told, but I do not want to risk injury to the next Lord of Casterly Rock.” So it was the wooden swords they were using.
