JAIME LANNISTER
"There are no men like me. Only me."
personality: ‘Complicated’ is probably the best word you could use to describe Jaime Lannister. Hated throughout the five kingdoms for a story which has probably been retold a hundred different ways, the “Kingslayer” is no stranger to having enemies. Those who aren’t scared off by the tale of Jaime stabbing his own lord in the back (for a very good reason, though nobody ever mentions that part) are usually put off by his sarcastic and arrogant attitude. Jaime is very overconfident, an ego nobody is really surprised by considering he is both wealthy, attractive, and arguably the greatest living swordman in Westeros. Despite this, Jaime actually does hold himself to a high code of honor and principals (slightly skewed principals.. but principals none the less). This can be largely accredited to his time in the Kingsguard.
Unlike the rest of his family, Jaime is not an ambitious man, and stays out of politics as much as possible. He’s not stupid, but he's also nearly as intelligent as siblings or his father. He is a soldier by nature, and attacks his problems head on, as opposed to with discreet manipulation. He can be impatient and hot tempered, which often causes him to speak without thinking. Jaime is very against needless violence and brutality, though he would carry out murder if it meant protecting the ones he cared about. He’s fiercely loyal, particularly to his family, and his most monstrous actions can often be attributed to that loyalty (such as pushing Bran off the tower when he found out about his and Cersei’s affair or launching an attack on Ned’s men after his brother was captured and brought to the Vale). He cares for and generally gets along with his siblings, father, and children (a rare ability in the Lannister house). He would do anything for both his sister and his brother, which often causes him conflict because the two hate one another with a passion that’s neither healthy nor sane. Unable to please everyone, Jaime is used to being pulling in multiple different directions, and choosing between the lesser of two evils.
”Don’t lie, Jaime.” ”I—“ he glanced at her and paused, ”Three, I think.” That was the truth. He wasn’t quite sure what made him say it… whether it was a desire to be honest with her, or he just simply decided he didn’t give a damn. Maybe it was both. He’d stopped questioning exactly why he acted how he did around Brienne a long time ago. He certainly wasn’t going to think about it while he was drunk. "You know if you ever want people to think more of you this is definitely something you want to avoid doing in the future." Last he'd checked he hadn't been asking for advice. "Nobody's here, Brienne," Jaime said slowly, like it were obvious, like it solved all his problem. "Well you are, but you don't know how to knock." Really, it was very rude. All of Ally's GOT characters are rude women. It's not surprising. "It doesn’t matter anyway." Jaime eyed the bottle in her hand, first realized that she’d never taken a drink when she crossed her arms. Alright, well, that was what he got for trying to share. ”Then why are you drinking?” ”Why must you question everything I do?” he retaliated, mocking her attitude. ”It’s not a crime to drink.” he added, slowly and deliberately, defensive. At the very least the topic finally turned to something that caused her more discomfort than it caused him. Selfishly, Jaime was glad for it. ”A promise is still a promise.” Jaime couldn’t resist rolling his eyes. Maybe it was the fact that Catelyn had had him, you know, chained up for a year, but he didn’t exactly harbor many sympathies for the woman, deceased or otherwise. ”So you just want to let her stay here. With Joffrey and Cersei. Away from any family she still has left.” He narrowed his eyes at the way she mentioned his sister and son, though he let it go without a comment. He was far too conflicted. ”The only family of hers who we know we’ll be able to find is certifiably insane.” he reminded. Arya was gone and really no one had heard from Jon in years. The most logical thing to do would be to bring her to the Vale. And when I say the most logical thing to do, I mean the most logical thing to do assuming you don’t know Lysa. Even Brienne couldn’t deny that the woman was not in the right state of mind. ”She’s a Stark the worst place for her to be is here.” ”She’s a Lannister by marriage now— nobody is going to hurt her.” Aside from the fact that the arrangement messed up Jaime and Brienne’s agreement, the marriage really was a good idea for both parties. Yes, mostly the Lannisters, because they now had the heir to the North. But Sansa was also no longer an object for Joffery to toy with, and Jaime knew his brother would treat her well. No, it wasn’t ideal, but it could have been a lot worse. And with a family like his, Jaime had learned to take ‘not as terrible as it could have been’ as a very good day.
